Synopsis

Lane, a newborn vampire, still feels the pain of betrayal. Two years ago, a faithless boyfriend took his life, and now, Lane’s Maker has also left him behind. The pain of separation burns strong when all Lane wants are arms to hold him and enough warm blood to satisfy his voracious appetite. At a shifter party, Lane is drawn to a hunky Alpha werewolf who tries to console him. Parker is more than a thoughtless hookup. Since his family disowned him for finding boys just as hot as girls, all he wants is someone to love and look after. The sweet little vamp calls to his protective instincts, but he sure is jumpy. Cuddling with boys is new and delicious, but when this boy also wants him as a food source, things get complicated. Vampires and shifters aren’t supposed to get along, and Parker’s rough dominance triggers bad memories for Lane. But Parker’s wolf wants Lane, and he knows he can give Lane what he needs. Can Lane learn to navigate his past and give the thing growing between them a chance? Or will the very real possibilities of heartache, abandonment, and even death, keep them apart?

Parker?” he said softly. The wolf’s orange eyes matched those of the smoker outside. “You scared me.”

The wolf stalked forward and sat at Lane’s feet, nudging Lane’s palm with his hot, wet nose. Lane’s denmates had said wolves were the most dangerous of shifters, because they had large, sharp teeth and the strength to rip off a vampire’s head. Theo and Erica wouldn’t allow Heather inside the den, but they didn’t mind Lane hanging out with her. She was a house cat when she shifted, and her teeth were small.

Wolves didn’t usually come to these parties. They stuck close to their own kind like vampires were supposed to. But Heather had said Parker was new…
Parker tongued between Lane’s fingers. Lane should have taken his hand away, probably, but it felt good, like a warm bath. His heart slowed but didn’t go quiet. Thump… Thump… Thump… He closed his eyes. Parker licked the sensitive underside of his wrist, and Lane wished he didn’t have to stand anymore.

After a few seconds, the wet heat disappeared. Lane opened his eyes to find Parker still in wolf form, but a few feet away now and looking back at him expectantly. Was Lane supposed to follow? When he took a few steps forward, Parker headed into a bedroom, so Lane followed him there, too.

Parker hopped up onto the bed.
Oh God. Does he want to…? From what Lane had seen so far, Parker looked like the quintessential frat boy, one he would have gladly gotten on his knees for back in college. But a lot had happened since then. His murder, for one.

I… can’t.”

Parker rested his chin on his paws and whimpered.

Oh, come on,” said Lane. “What are you gonna do? Lick me some more?”

Parker opened his mouth and stuck his tongue out, panting jovially.

Lane found himself smiling. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d done so genuinely, and the movement felt foreign to the muscles in his cheeks. Still, it was the alcohol that gave him the courage to get on the bed. He lay on his back and closed his eyes again.

Fur brushed against his skin. The hot tongue found his ear and lapped until Lane’s breath turned shaky. “This is weird,” he whispered.

But Parker didn’t stop, licking from behind Lane’s ear and down the line of his jaw. Lane’s fangs cut through his gums at the same time that his dick filled, and he thought, I’m so screwed up. Only a screwed-up person would let a shifter do this to them in full shifted form. But it felt good. Lane never got to feel good. He was always having to hold himself back—his hunger, his feelings for Theo, his panic when the memories cropped up.

The fur disappeared, and a decidedly human hand held the opposite side of his face. Lane became uncomfortably aware of the thumping of Parker’s heart, yet he turned into him and nuzzled a little, his fangs throbbing along with his cock.

Still weird?” Parker breathed against his ear.
